Why didn't we do this sooner?

Don't you hate those projects that you avoid and put off because you think they will be a pain or take a long time to complete...and they weigh on you and hang over you. Then you get your act together to do the project and think...why didn't I do this soon? One of these projects for us was relocating the fridge in our kitchen. We lived with the old configuration for 6 months (complete with bad sponge paint job!):

Over our winter break I painted the top half of the kitchen with the extra paint leftover in the basement and J installed a new outlet so that we could swap the fridge and the storage cabinet. (The door frame that you see in the photos is the same door frame -- for a frame of reference.) We also installed some new shelves for additional storage. Now we actually have accessible workspace near the stove. When didn't we do this sooner? LOVE IT!

I wallpapered the bathroom in my former house right before I sold it. I had the wallpaper for almost ayear and kept putting it off. It was so easy to do and looked so cute, I thought the same thing. Why in the heck didn't I do this earlier so I could have enjoyed it.

It looks like the fridge is now in front of a vent. That's not a problem? Did you just close the vent?

You're right -- the fridge is in front of a vent now. The only vent in the kitchen, actually, but we haven't had any problems with it. There is about a 5" gap between the vent and the fridge and we have left the vent open. We don't have any problems with temperature regulation in there -- the windows face east and north and we have a large maple tree in the yard which blocks all the sun in the summer, so it doesn't heat up. We didn't notice any problems in the winter either. I do occassionally think about buying/building something to redirect the airflow out in to the room, but haven't gotten around to it. It's probably not the most energy efficient arrangement, but it doesn't cause any problems for now.

We will eventually do an all-over kitchen remodel and replace the flooring, etc. That would be the time when we would deal with rerouting the vent.
